How heavy are your emotional bricks?
A long, long time ago, I put a house brick in my brother’s school bag as an April Fools’ trick.
He carried that bag to school, walked around all day with it on his shoulder and walked home. He had no idea that the brick was at the bottom of his bag.
Oh how I laughed (although I don’t think I got the same response from him at the time!).
A funny story, and yet we do this to ourselves every day.
You see, a house brick in an already heavy bag doesn’t make a big difference. If the bag was empty, you’d know it was there. But when it was already filled with text books and sports kit, an extra couple of kilos is not felt.
And this is how we often take on emotions, stress, grief and worry.
If you were sitting in a cave meditating all day and you got a call from a family member with some bad news, you’d feel it. From a calm and relaxed state, the emotions of fear, worry, devastation even would come tumbling in and you’d feel them through every cell of your body.
But you don’t live life sitting in a cave, meditating all day.
Life is a lot. You may have a full or even stressful job. You may be running a busy family household. Or even answering your phone a dozen times a day to your parent with dementia.
All those things you are dealing with are already heavy on you. But because you are capable and able to multi-task and manage the day to day dramas, you carry on, smiling to reassure others that you are really OK.
But then you get given a brick (or three) to carry; an emergency visit to the vets, a prang in your car, or worse … a health diagnosis or sudden death of a loved one.
Goddam those bricks are heavy.
But because you are already carrying such weight around from everyday life, you don’t feel the weight of those new bricks.
Your nervous system stays in fight-or-flight. Because that’s how we are designed. Your body is responding to help you be ready for action; ready for the next crisis.
And if you find yourself feeling emotional - tears come, a lump in your throat, a hot flush - your body reacts by holding you up to avoid you breaking down. Needed in a moment in a crisis, but not as a long term strategy that is healthy.
This is why I do my energy healing work.
Reiki and sound healing allows your body to let go of layers of stress and tension which in turn means you take the body out of the red zone.
My treatments help move the stress dial back to a level so your nervous system calms and, most importantly, allows you to stay resilient and able to deal with the next thing. And the next thing.
I’m not here to help you sit in a cave to meditate all day. That’s not real life.
I’m here to help you deal with what life throws at you whilst ensuring your health and wellbeing stays strong.
If this resonates, get in touch and we can set up a time to talk about what’s going on for you and how I may be able to support you.
I work in person in Godalming, Hindead & Haslemere, and offer distant treatments with clients across the UK and internationally.
